Deleting Duplicate drawings in ARES Commander
DiscardDuplicate is one of the new commands of ARES Commander. With this new feature, you can clean your dwg drawings and delete duplicates with advanced options.
1
00:00:09,000 –> 00:00:15,200
When we make drawings in CAD It is possible that at any time we have duplicate entities.
2
00:00:15,520 –> 00:00:18,919
Just like in this case where there is apparently 1 circle.
3
00:00:19,280 –> 00:00:22,540
However, when we make a window selection of this “circle”
4
00:00:22,720 –> 00:00:26,439
we can see in the properties palette that there are 4.
5
00:00:26,640 –> 00:00:32,800
ARES Commander 2015 easily eliminates the entities that are duplicated.
6
00:00:33,280 –> 00:00:38,740
To select these entities we come here to the dropdown icon, where we find DELETE.
7
00:00:39,300 –> 00:00:42,480
Choose the command: Discard Duplicates.
8
00:00:42,480 –> 00:00:45,980
Where it says ‘ignore entity properties’ select ‘Layer’.
9
00:00:46,400 –> 00:00:52,120
and then choose the option ‘remove duplicate polylines vertices and segments’.
10
00:00:52,560 –> 00:00:54,220
Select OK.
11
00:00:54,860 –> 00:01:00,220
When we now make a windows selection of this circle, we see that there is only one left.
Another Example
12
00:01:01,100 –> 00:01:05,600
In another example, we apparently have 1 circle and 1 Hatch.
13
00:01:05,900 –> 00:01:12,740
When we select all entities, we see in the properties palette that there are 2 circles and 1 hatch.
14
00:01:13,160 –> 00:01:16,539
So, back to the command ‘Discard Duplicates”.
15
00:01:16,900 –> 00:01:19,880
We select ‘Layer’ and ‘LineColor’.
16
00:01:20,500 –> 00:01:24,640
We choose ‘Remove duplicate entities’ and click OK.
17
00:01:25,20 –> 00:01:27,339
Now we make a new windows selection.
18
00:01:27,660 –> 00:01:31,670
We then see that it is a single circle and 1 Hatch.
19
00:01:31,800 –> 00:01:33,660
This new example is different.
20
00:01:34,100 –> 00:01:37,59
We have a circle and above it, an arc.
21
00:01:37,380 –> 00:01:39,520
They could be considered identical.
22
00:01:39,680 –> 00:01:45,340
However, when selected, we see in the properties palette that we have an arc and a circle.
23
00:01:45,840 –> 00:01:51,800
We can go to “Discard duplicates” to use some of the options listed in the dialog box.
24
00:01:52,180 –> 00:01:56,860
For example, we can combine these entities so they become a single one.
25
00:01:57,200 –> 00:02:00,500
In this case deselect ‘remove ..’ and click OK.
Selecting a window
26
00:02:00,960 –> 00:02:05,220
Now we can see that we have a single circle.
27
00:02:05,860 –> 00:02:08,780
In this example, we have 2 rectangles.
28
00:02:09,000 –> 00:02:12,580
Perform a window selection to check that there are 2.
29
00:02:12,800 –> 00:02:17,740
By clicking, we confirm that it is a rectangle, which is a closed polyline,
30
00:02:18,40 –> 00:02:20,239
and this one just another rectangle.
31
00:02:20,300 –> 00:02:26,600
With the command ‘discard duplicates’ we can remove the segment that is common to these two rectangles.
Combining overlapping segments
32
00:02:27,100 –> 00:02:29,140
For example, this segment.
33
00:02:29,420 –> 00:02:31,19
We make a window selection.
34
00:02:31,580 –> 00:02:33,900
We chose “Discard Duplicates”.
35
00:02:33,940 –> 00:02:40,500
For that reason we ask ARES Commander to ignore the entity properties ‘Layer’ and ‘LineColor’.
36
00:02:40,500 –> 00:02:45,220
We keep this option so that the segments which are overlapping become one.
37
00:02:45,760 –> 00:02:49,840
Select the first option. In this case, it’s the segment.
38
00:02:50,160 –> 00:02:51,760
Select OK.
39
00:02:51,980 –> 00:02:57,700
When we move this rectangle, we see that the segment which was common to both has been removed.
40
00:02:58,900 –> 00:03:03,440
There are more changes than can be achieved using the command “Discard duplicates”
41
00:03:03,560 –> 00:03:06,600
from Ares Commander 2015.
42
00:03:06,860 –> 00:03:10,260
One is to merge entities that are collinear.
43
00:03:10,300 –> 00:03:13,60
Here, for example, we have 2 segments.
44
00:03:13,240 –> 00:03:15,360
We can transform them into one.
45
00:03:15,740 –> 00:03:18,760
To do this simply select the two elements.
46
00:03:18,940 –> 00:03:21,660
As you can see here there are 2 lines.
47
00:03:22,20 –> 00:03:29,600
Run the “discard duplicate” command and select “Combine collinear entities aligned end to end”
48
00:03:29,740 –> 00:03:31,480
Select OK.
49
00:03:32,120 –> 00:03:33,500
Now they are one.
50
00:03:33,800 –> 00:03:36,420
The same can apply to this also.
51
00:03:36,600 –> 00:03:37,579
We select …
52
00:03:37,660 –> 00:03:39,710
We see that they are two arcs
53
00:03:40,280 –> 00:03:44,240
Select “Discard Duplicates”and choose the same option.
54
00:03:47,60 –> 00:03:50,130
In this example we have a dimension associativity.
55
00:03:51,40 –> 00:03:56,79
Selecting these entities we find that there are two overlapping rectangles
56
00:03:56,400 –> 00:04:00,500
but this dimension is associated with one of these rectangles.
57
00:04:00,980 –> 00:04:05,959
We click and move one of its vertices to see how it affects the dimension.
58
00:04:06,340 –> 00:04:08,200
We see that it has no effect.
59
00:04:08,740 –> 00:04:11,500
However, if we change the other vertex
60
00:04:11,520 –> 00:04:16,480
the dimension changes, because it is associated with the yellow rectangle.
61
00:04:17,100 –> 00:04:22,120
So in this case, we want to remove the duplicate entity, which is the rectangle,
62
00:04:22,560 –> 00:04:25,450
without affecting the associated dimension.
63
00:04:25,640 –> 00:04:29,820
We make a window selection and go to the command “Discard duplicates”.
64
00:04:30,360 –> 00:04:35,200
We choose ‘Layer’ and ‘LineColor’ and “remove duplicate entities…”,
65
00:04:35,660 –> 00:04:40,580
but in this case we select” do not modify associative entities’
66
00:04:40,700 –> 00:04:42,120
and click OK.
67
00:04:42,460 –> 00:04:46,120
By doing so, we ensure that if we make a modification
68
00:04:46,180 –> 00:04:50,140
it is with entities that do not have other associative entities.
69
00:04:50,420 –> 00:04:53,360
We give priority to the yellow rectangle.
70
00:04:53,540 –> 00:04:54,960
