Curved Text from Ares Commander collection of extra tools
ARES Commander 2016 offers us a collection of extra tools which allow us to perform tasks that weren’t possible before. “Curved Text” is one of them.
1
00:00:09,180 –> 00:00:13,120
Ares Commander 2016 offers us a collection of extra tools
2
00:00:13,200 –> 00:00:17,200
which allow us to perform tasks that weren’t possible before.
3
00:00:17,740 –> 00:00:20,20
For example “curved text.”
4
00:00:20,140 –> 00:00:23,330
For this, we need an arc. A circle would not help
5
00:00:23,330 –> 00:00:28,990
because it is required to have a starting and end point to adjust the text.
6
00:00:29,860 –> 00:00:36,40
We draw an arc defined in this case by three points, and select “curved text.”
7
00:00:40,220 –> 00:00:42,260
We click on the arc.
8
00:00:42,780 –> 00:00:49,380
Ares Commander 2016 then uses the arc as a reference to write a curved text over it.
9
00:00:50,180 –> 00:00:55,721
This dialog box shows all the necessary tools
to write the text.
10
00:00:55,800 –> 00:01:02,540
We indicate a text size …
and now write “Green Zone”.
11
00:01:04,940 –> 00:01:09,60
At the top you find tools to “justify” the
text.
12
00:01:13,940 –> 00:01:19,880
We also have buttons to format the text with
bold, italic or underlined characters.
13
00:01:20,740 –> 00:01:25,160
We can write the text on the convex or concave side of the arc.
14
00:01:25,580 –> 00:01:27,899
It’s even possible to flip the text.
15
00:01:31,580 –> 00:01:38,940
Furthermore, we can change the text style,
font, color, character spacing etc.
16
00:01:41,700 –> 00:01:46,280
We can also offset the text at a specific
distance from the arc.
17
00:01:49,960 –> 00:01:53,580
When everything is set, you can click OK.
18
00:01:55,260 –> 00:01:59,1
In its curved shape the text is conditioned by the arc:
19
00:01:59,720 –> 00:02:03,320
When we select the arc and change its radius,
20
00:02:04,760 –> 00:02:09,520
we see how the text automatically adjusts to the new form.
21
00:02:10,60 –> 00:02:14,901
Notice how the text fits when you drag the arc to the circle that we have here.
22
00:02:23,220 –> 00:02:25,840
Now, let’s go back.
23
00:02:28,360 –> 00:02:31,220
If you select the arc and delete it,
24
00:02:33,140 –> 00:02:37,640
you loose the possibility to edit the curvature of the text.
25
00:02:38,820 –> 00:02:44,440
The shape of the text was defined by the arc, at least as far as its curvature is concerned.
26
00:02:45,240 –> 00:02:53,560
Nevertheless, with the “Curved Text” feature, we can select again the text (even without the arc) and edit its content.
27
00:02:54,980 –> 00:03:01,19
We can still change the justification, text appearance, position etc.
28
00:03:02,560 –> 00:03:07,180
And we can try different combinations from he available options.
29
00:03:09,220 –> 00:03:13,600
As you can see, all these changes can be made without the arc.
30
00:03:14,800 –> 00:03:18,659
In fact, we can even offset the text with respect to the imaginary arc.
31
00:03:20,380 –> 00:03:25,60
Without the arc, we can’t change the shape of the curve anymore.
32
00:03:26,80 –> 00:03:30,420
And the grips, which appear when we select the text, do not allow any modification,
33
00:03:30,480 –> 00:03:33,640
since they only indicate the text justification.
34
00:03:34,460 –> 00:03:38,300
As a result, if you want to keep control over
the curvature of your text,
35
00:03:38,660 –> 00:03:44,900
a good practice would be to place the arc on a separate layer you could turn on and off as required.
36
00:03:45,680 –> 00:03:51,800
Doing so, you would keep not only control
of the text formatting, but also of the curvature and length.
37
00:03:52,760 –> 00:03:59,859
