Working with Default Workspaces
1
00:00:09,000 –> 00:00:15,998
ARES Commander 2015 provides three default workspaces that we see here.
2
00:00:16,000 –> 00:00:19,900
However, depending on the type of work that we have to do,
3
00:00:20,140 –> 00:00:23,260
it can be required to customize the workspace
4
00:00:23,260 –> 00:00:31,460
to suit better the needs for specific activities such as electricity, architecture, structure etc.
5
00:00:32,740 –> 00:00:36,480
For example, when we select the workspace “3D MODELING”,
6
00:00:37,760 –> 00:00:42,940
the program will give priority to tools that will allow us to work in 3D.
7
00:00:43,140 –> 00:00:49,180
By using the option “DRAFTING AND ANNOTATION”, we are prioritizing the 2D tools.
8
00:00:49,200 –> 00:00:52,520
We can also return to the “classic” look,
9
00:00:53,400 –> 00:00:57,160
without Ribbon but with drop-down menus and toolbars.
10
00:00:57,160 –> 00:01:01,640
But … how do we create a customized workspace?
11
00:01:03,199 –> 00:01:09,378
For this let’s go to the “MANAGE” tab and
select the “INTERFACE” command.
12
00:01:11,80 –> 00:01:16,550
Among the options on the left of the dialog choose “Profiles UI”.
13
00:01:16,550 –> 00:01:20,840
We now see the 3 workspaces that we have seen before.
14
00:01:20,840 –> 00:01:26,130
This arrow here indicates the current workspace.
Creating New Workspaces
15
00:01:26,130 –> 00:01:30,770
To create a new workspace you click here.
16
00:01:33,220 –> 00:01:39,710
Now select, right-click and choose a name.
17
00:01:39,710 –> 00:01:44,970
We create another space and assign a name to it with “rename”.
18
00:01:48,300 –> 00:01:50,300
Press OK.
19
00:01:51,60 –> 00:01:54,60
Our new workspaces are now listed.
20
00:01:54,380 –> 00:01:56,380
Select “ELECTRICAL”.
21
00:01:58,000 –> 00:02:02,700
What happened? You can see we have lost most of the user interface.
22
00:02:02,980 –> 00:02:08,80
And therefore have no ribbon, menu or toolbar to access to commands.
23
00:02:08,100 –> 00:02:12,840
This is because we have not assigned yet any item to the workspace.
24
00:02:12,940 –> 00:02:18,240
But this is not a problem. Thanks to the command line we can write UIProfile.
25
00:02:19,380 –> 00:02:22,640
This allows us to return to this dialog box.
Activating Workspaces
26
00:02:23,120 –> 00:02:25,400
Now we can activate another workspace
27
00:02:25,620 –> 00:02:28,700
by double clicking in the “ACTIVE” column.
28
00:02:29,20 –> 00:02:32,540
Press APPLY to change to another workspace.
29
00:02:33,260 –> 00:02:36,299
Now let’s return to ELECTRICAL.
30
00:02:36,920 –> 00:02:39,140
Double click to make it active.
31
00:02:41,540 –> 00:02:49,260
Open the drop-down “RIBBON TABS” where we note that there is a series of tabs that correspond to each workspace.
32
00:02:49,940 –> 00:02:55,440
All we have to do is to assign to this new workspace what should be included.
33
00:02:55,880 –> 00:03:02,60
Let’s therefore, click on this button, which opens a browser with different options.
34
00:03:02,220 –> 00:03:06,340
For example, let’s drag the tabs “HOME-2D”,
35
00:03:07,960 –> 00:03:11,540
“Annotate”, and “Constraints”.
36
00:03:15,280 –> 00:03:21,60
Into the workspace “Structure” we add “HOME-2D” and “Insert-2D”.
37
00:03:27,700 –> 00:03:33,920
So, to summarize, we can create a new workspace with this button.
38
00:03:34,550 –> 00:03:39,710
The “Ribbon Tabs” section helps us to assign tabs to the workspace.
39
00:03:40,340 –> 00:03:47,260
These tabs were configurated before and can be chosen from the list displayed in the “Ribbon Tab Explorer”
40
00:03:48,540 –> 00:03:52,920
The same can be done with the menus.
Custom Workspaces
41
00:03:53,440 –> 00:03:59,159
As you can see, they are currently only activated in the workspace “Classic Default”.
42
00:03:59,300 –> 00:04:03,861
But we can also incorporate them into our custom workspaces.
43
00:04:03,920 –> 00:04:09,489
We drag the menus we like and here we will add the Dimension menu.
44
00:04:09,590 –> 00:04:16,930
The same can be said for the “Toolbars” which are also currently only activated in the space “Classic Default”.
45
00:04:17,680 –> 00:04:25,880
In the “Elements” section we can find the
status bar, the command line, the properties palette, and other UI elements.
46
00:04:28,60 –> 00:04:32,980
As an example, we can add the “Parameters” palette to the Electrical workspace
47
00:04:33,100 –> 00:04:35,740
and do the same for the Structure one.
48
00:04:36,440 –> 00:04:42,160
When checking the options, we see that here we missed one.
49
00:04:42,280 –> 00:04:48,580
It is the “Quick Access bar”. Let’s activate it also for our custom spaces.
50
00:04:52,600 –> 00:04:54,599
Press OK.
51
00:04:55,840 –> 00:05:01,39
I press ENTER to run the last command again and compare what we can see on screen
52
00:05:01,160 –> 00:05:02,960
with the options, we have activated.
53
00:05:03,120 –> 00:05:04,100
Let’s click here
54
00:05:04,520 –> 00:05:08,840
First of all, we can check that the ELECTRICAL workspace is activated –
55
00:05:10,680 –> 00:05:12,900
as indicated up here.
56
00:05:14,40 –> 00:05:20,700
For the Quick Access Bar (which can be seen here) we see that it is activated for this workspace.
57
00:05:22,680 –> 00:05:28,400
In the Ribbon Tabs section, we see the tabs. Home – 2D, Annotate, and Constraints.
58
00:05:29,160 –> 00:05:31,980
Which is what you can see here.
Activating Parameters Palette
59
00:05:33,440 –> 00:05:37,260
For MENUS we defined that we only wanted the File menu.
60
00:05:38,680 –> 00:05:40,680
We can find it here.
61
00:05:42,20 –> 00:05:47,940
In TOOLBARS, for ELECTRICAL we have not assigned any which explains why nothing is displayed.
62
00:05:48,920 –> 00:05:52,620
In the ELEMENTS section, we see that for the workspace ELECTRICAL
63
00:05:52,760 –> 00:05:55,340
we have activated the PARAMETERS palette,
64
00:05:56,80 –> 00:05:58,80
which is the one we can find here
65
00:05:58,620 –> 00:06:04,590
As a result, following these steps, we can
set up and customize any workspace.
66
00:06:04,740 –> 00:06:10,500
