ARES Commander 2016 introduces the new “Heads Up” floating palette
Are you looking for Productivity Boost in CAD? Ares Commander 2016 introduces the new “Heads Up” floating palette.
This new contextual toolbar appears next to your cursor when you select entities.
Shortcuts include zoom to selection, change entity layer, change LineStyle or LineWidth, and the possibility to create a dimension or a block from the selection.
1
00:00:09,80 –> 00:00:14,80
Ares Commander 2016 is introducing the new “Heads Up” floating palette
2
00:00:14,520 –> 00:00:18,560
that appears when you select one or more entities.
3
00:00:19,20 –> 00:00:23,220
It offers some shortcuts to change the line type, line weight
4
00:00:24,20 –> 00:00:27,820
or to open directly from there the Layer Manager.
5
00:00:28,640 –> 00:00:32,980
You may also assign the current layer to the selected entities.
6
00:00:33,300 –> 00:00:34,760
For instance…
7
00:00:35,60 –> 00:00:37,980
at the moment we are working
on layer “0”.
8
00:00:38,300 –> 00:00:41,250
Let’s move some entities to the “viewport”
layer.
9
00:00:41,880 –> 00:00:44,920
The entity in this viewport is on layer “0”
10
00:00:45,400 –> 00:00:51,640
We can select the viewport and choose the “Entity to Active Layer” icon in the “Heads Up” palette.
11
00:00:51,980 –> 00:00:56,260
In doing so we assign the current layer to the selected entities.
12
00:00:56,540 –> 00:01:00,700
We could also do it with these two viewports.
13
00:01:00,800 –> 00:01:06,320
Another option is to change the layer, to
which these entities are assigned to.
14
00:01:07,900 –> 00:01:11,420
Press the down arrow and choose Layer Name.
15
00:01:12,180 –> 00:01:16,340
Then choose the target layer of the selected entities.
16
00:01:17,340 –> 00:01:20,340
Here we choose as destination the
layer “0”.
17
00:01:20,580 –> 00:01:24,740
After clicking OK the objects are asigned to that layer.
18
00:01:25,580 –> 00:01:28,880
“Heads Up” provides even more options.
19
00:01:29,220 –> 00:01:34,440
In this case we select the dimension and click on “Zoom to Selection”.
20
00:01:34,880 –> 00:01:40,119
We perform an equivalent
to “Zoom Extension” of the selected entity.
21
00:01:40,940 –> 00:01:47,20
In another example, we select several objects at once and click on “Zoom to Selection” again.
22
00:01:47,420 –> 00:01:51,200
Among the options available, we can also create a dimension.
23
00:01:51,560 –> 00:01:55,540
To do this, select an entity and click “Smart Dimension”.
24
00:01:55,880 –> 00:01:59,679
Now, determine the position of the dimension with one click.
25
00:02:00,200 –> 00:02:06,60
You can also select this line, press down
the arrow key to select “ANGLE”,
26
00:02:06,700 –> 00:02:11,200
select another line to define the angle and the dimension is created.
27
00:02:11,560 –> 00:02:19,320
Remember that, since the previous version, we can quickly edit a selected dimension with the related palette.
28
00:02:20,480 –> 00:02:22,780
We position the pointer over the icon,
29
00:02:22,940 –> 00:02:29,680
edit the value it contains, and may add text below, above, prefix or suffix.
30
00:02:30,480 –> 00:02:33,540
Many other options are available in this dialog.
31
00:02:33,740 –> 00:02:37,120
See our previous video about that.
32
00:02:38,140 –> 00:02:44,560
Another option of “Heads Up” is to quickly
create blocks from selected entities.
33
00:02:44,580 –> 00:02:49,560
In the dialog box we can define a name for the block and add a description.
34
00:02:53,140 –> 00:02:56,519
We can define an insertion
point,
35
00:02:58,360 –> 00:03:02,560
the units and other common options available when creating a block.
36
00:03:03,320 –> 00:03:08,600
Then, if desired, click OK to convert the selected objects into in a block.
37
00:03:09,380 –> 00:03:15,200
Another novelty that appeared in a previous version of Ares Commander is “Mouse Gestures”.
38
00:03:15,880 –> 00:03:21,579
To see this feature hold down the right mouse button and make a small movement with the pointer:
39
00:03:22,120 –> 00:03:28,400
A ‘wheel’ appears and you can access
commands like COPY.
40
00:03:32,60 –> 00:03:36,160
You may learn more about mouse gesture from our previous video.
41
00:03:36,480 –> 00:03:39,619
If you want to know more about the options of “Heads Up”
42
00:03:39,740 –> 00:03:43,260
You can use the HELP of Ares Commander 2016
43
00:03:43,520 –> 00:03:48,940
where you’ll find all the possibilities of this new contextual toolbar.
