Interview with CTO Robert Graebert about Graebert's Cloud‑based CAD technology
April 20, 2015 – "Xenon is the code name for Graebert's new cloud-based CAD software. Xenon will eventually have all of the tools found in desktop ARES, but OEM customers get to decide which tools to expose. In Onshape, the idea is to have Xenon provide the tools necessary for a mechanical engineer to come up with drawings suitable for manufacturing.

Q: What are some of your future plans for Xenon and Onshape Drawings?

A: It all depends on what partners want. An obvious next feature for Onshape Drawings is shading of viewports. Some partners want viewing, some want editing; Onshape wants mainly annotation from us."

Graebert Partners With Esri and Releases New Graebert Onlinemaps Plugin for Draftsight
Provides Esri ArcGIS Online Mapping Platform Integration with Leading CAD App

June 12, 2013 – Berlin – Graebert™, a leading developer of custom CAD software, solutions, and services and the co-developer of DraftSight®, the popular 2D CAD drafting product from Dassault® Systèmes, today announced the release of a new plugin that integrates the Esri® ArcGIS Online mapping platform with DraftSight.

Esri is the largest provider of GIS software and services in the market. This new product, Graebert OnlineMaps Plugin for DraftSight, allows AEC CAD users to browse and reference any maps available in the Esri ArcGIS Online map base and integrate them directly into their CAD drawings.

DraftSight is a professional-grade, free CAD product that lets users create, edit, and view .DWG files. With over 3.6 million downloads, the software is used by professionals, students, and educators. The Graebert OnlineMaps Plugin for DraftSight is an example of a set of new add-on applications intended to broaden the use of DraftSight within targeted user communities. This AEC-targeted plugin integrates easily with DraftSight and is available for both the free and premium versions.

Graebert and Esri Partnership Brings Innovative Technology to AEC Community
The Esri ArcGIS Online product allows users to access a rich collection of basemaps, demographic maps, and image services within their organization, using the Esri Cloud. It is Software delivered as a Service (SaaS), and is ready to use with nothing to install or setup. Users will also get access to content shared by Esri, giving users and their teams around the world intuitive tools to create and publish maps and apps on demand. Some of this data is dynamic, that is, it changes on a frequent basis. The new Graebert Onlinemaps Plugin for DraftSight takes this into account, always ensuring that the most up-to-date versions of the maps are in your .DWG drawing.

David Totman, Esri Public Works, AEC, and Survey Industry Manager added, “This application is precisely what Esri had in mind with the ArcGIS Online mapping platform. We want the mapping community to be able to use all the maps available in ArcGIS Online in their design and drafting projects. We see this plugin as a major benefit to both our customers and other DraftSight users.

Robert Graebert, CTO of Graebert GmbH feels this plugin is a signficant development for engineering CAD users, and commented, “The partner relationship between Graebert and Esri is new, but we expect great things to come from it. This plugin release solidifies our entry into the Engineering and Design space as an Esri partner. The Graebert OnlineMaps Plugin for DraftSight is proof that we are offering great value to DraftSight users. We see this as a first step towards leveraging GIS technology in a CAD environment.

Using the Graebert OnlineMaps plugin with DraftSight
Installing and using the Graebert OnlineMaps Plugin for DraftSight is simple. The plugin self-installs in the menu at the top of the DraftSight screen. When the plugin is selected, information is requested about the map projection to be used. Once the map projection is selected, the user is free to browse for maps in the ArcGIS Online application. The map is then automatically positioned in a DraftSight drawing. The user may insert multiple maps and the underlay created will zoom and scroll with the drawing as the user works on his or her project. The plugin displays the most recent version of the maps, so that even if a selected map is actively being worked on, the most current version is always displayed.

Pricing and Availablility
To access the plugin, visit www.graebert.com/onlinemaps and download it at no cost. At this time, only Windows and the DraftSight V1R3.1 Release from January 2013 and forward are supported. Users can download the latest version of DraftSight at DraftSight.com.

Graebert announces SiteMaster 2013 (Beta) and introduces SiteMaster 2013 BIM
Sitemaster 2013 leverages power of industry-leading ARES CAD engine, offers DWG- and IFC- compatibility and is ADT object-oriented

January 31, 2013 – Berlin – Graebert™ – a leading developer of CAD software, solutions, and services, including building surveying software and services – today announced that a Beta download of SiteMaster™ 2013 is available to select users and is also introducing SiteMaster 2013 BIM. Both products are managed and distributed by Graebert’s iSurvey team (www.graebert-isurvey.com).

SiteMaster 2013 is an advanced building survey software solution for mobile devices. It can be paired with any Bluetooth®-enabled Laser Distance Meter on any Microsoft® Windows® 7 or 8 tablet device to create accurate digital CAD drawings and “as-build” floor plans of existing buildings while onsite.

About SiteMaster 2013
SiteMaster 2013 is a 2D solution for capturing building information onsite with enhanced 3D viewing. This new version of SiteMaster is built on the powerful and efficient ARES® CAD engine from Graebert - the same technology that powers DraftSight™ from Dassault Systèmes SolidWorks Corp. and CorelCAD™ from Corel™ Corporation.

SiteMaster 2013 is object-oriented, allowing users to create and manipulate smart objects representing walls, windows, doors, and more. This saves the surveyor time on-site and reduces the effort needed to finalize plans back in the office. As a result, surveys can be conducted in half the time of competitive solutions.

SiteMaster 2013 software runs on affordable Windows 7 and 8 tablets, eliminating the need for expensive hardware. This cost savings, combined with the many technology enhancements and data collection capabilities in version 2013, gives the new SiteMaster a significant competitive advantage when compared to other building measuring and surveying solutions such as 3D laser point cloud surveys. The familiar user interface, icon menus, and dialogue boxes make SiteMaster 2013 easy to learn for professionals who use DWG-compatible software.

Key features of SiteMaster 2013 include:
  • Measure, draw and transfer walls, windows, and doors as editable objects
  • Copy or edit objects with entity grip points and the attribute manager
  • Export and exchange data with all compatible .DWG software
  • 2D intelligent surveying on-site reduces the time in the office after completing the survey
  • Integrated 3D viewer
  • Forward compatibility (user interface and database) with older versions of SiteMaster
  • Easily insert bill of material or other object data as a table in the drawing

3D point cloud solutions are getting a lot of attention in the surveying industry today, but SiteMaster 2013 is simply more powerful, efficient and will save users tens of thousands of dollars in hardware, software, and man hours when it comes to as-build floor plans,” said Wilfried Graebert, CEO of Graebert. “We are very excited about the benefits this technology will bring to surveyors who have chosen to work with the best available tools and software.

About SiteMaster 2013 BIM
Graebert is also introducing SiteMaster 2013 BIM – a full 3D, IFC-enabled and object-oriented enhanced version of SiteMaster 2013. The software enables the quick creation of BIM models and provides data to import directly into 3D architectural modeling packages like Autodesk® Revit® and Tekla® Structures. Applying BIM to existing buildings and structures makes SiteMaster the preferred first step in a reversed BIM workflow for producing as-build drawings in IFC format. The data and object-rich drawing databases that result can be used for facilities management, refurbishment projects, and many other applications.

SiteMaster 2013 BIM allows professionals to survey and create accurate IFC object structures for BIM projects, eliminating modeling work back at the office. SiteMaster 2013 BIM supports a 3D implementation of IFC including complete attribute transfer.

The software is delivered as part of project-based partnerships with Graebert’s iSurvey team. Companies can leverage the SiteMaster 2013 BIM software when Graebert iSurvey conducts or consults on their “as-build” surveying projects. Graebert iSurvey excels at training and international project management, meaning every project uses a consultative, results-oriented approach. Companies will be partnering with an industry leader with over 12 years of experience in mobile surveying solutions. Graebert iSurvey’s expertise combined with cutting-edge SiteMaster 2013 BIM software become a preferred partner for conducting “as built” building surveys.

Atkins is fully embracing the change from 2D CAD to BIM. Revit is allowing us to do this, however we still have to get our 2D plans and elevations and make them into fully fledged 3D models. SiteMaster 2013 BIM and our partnership with Graebert iSurvey has enabled Atkins to have building surveys in the right file formats imported directly into Revit with minimal fuss in the CAD/ BIM Design and Engineering department. This eliminates the need for the building to be redrawn with the obvious cost savings and reduces the chance of any errors occurring. This technology from Graebert is a huge win for Atkins.

– Neil Burgess
CAD/BIM Manager, Design & Engineering

ATKINS - 75 years of design, engineering and project management excellence

Pricing and Availability
SiteMaster 2013 BIM is available for BIM projects in collaboration with Graebert iSurvey, and the retail version of SiteMaster 2013 is currently in the final stages of Beta testing. New CorelCAD™ Delivers Precision and Power at an Affordable Price
Built for speed on Windows® and Mac OS®, CorelCAD Delivers Native DWG™ file format support, a full complement of 2D and 3D design tools, and broad compatibility with industry standard CAD tools and workflows

May 10, 2011 – Ottawa, Canada – Corel® today announced the expansion of its award-winning graphics and technical illustration portfolio with the introduction of CorelCAD™, a powerful and affordable technical design solution that delivers native DWG support, with the industry standard CAD file format, and the ability to seamlessly navigate between 2D and 3D environments. Optimized for the Mac and Windows platforms, CorelCAD enables engineers, designers and architects to quickly and easily customize their work environments and work with even greater speed and efficiency.

Competitively priced, CorelCAD offers small-to-medium-sized businesses and larger enterprises an affordable option for site-wide deployments, making it an ideal solution for day-to-day design projects that require a high level of precision and detail.

Improved Workflow and Compatibility Built on Leading CAD Technology
Corel has partnered with Graebert GmbH, a leading CAD developer with over 25 years of industry experience, to develop and market CorelCAD to a wide audience of users. As a result, existing CAD users will enjoy an intuitive environment with familiar command bars, aliases, menus and toolbars. In addition, CorelCAD provides excellent compatibility, working natively with the AutoCAD® DWG™ file format and eliminating the need for an import / export process to read and write files in the industry standard format.

“The high cost of many CAD solutions makes it a prohibitive expense for small-to-medium-sized businesses. CorelCAD represents a great alternative, particularly for technical designers seeking power and precision at an affordable price,” said Klaus Vossen, Product Manager for Technical Graphics at Corel. “We’re confident that CorelCAD’s combination of price and performance will provide a compelling alternative to architects, engineers, construction firms and any enterprise seeking precision tools for 2D and 3D design.”

Powerful Feature Set Delivers New Levels of Productivity
Focused on helping users to be as productive as possible, CorelCAD emphasizes file format support, customization and ease of integration into existing design workflows. Key capabilities include the ability to:

  • Open & save DWG files natively: CorelCAD™ uses DWG™ as its native file format and offers DXF™ and DWF support up to AutoCAD® 2010 file format versions (used by AutoCAD® 2010-AutoCAD® 2012). Open, work with and save files in DWG format for worry-free collaboration with colleagues, suppliers and partners. Plus, save drawings back to R12 DWG or DXF format, and recover DWG and DXF files in all format versions.
  • Design in 2D & 3D: Along with a comprehensive set of 2D drawing features, CorelCAD includes a set of 3D solid modeling tools. Add 3D solid primitives to your design and use Boolean operations to unite, intersect and subtract bodies. Extrude or revolve 2D entities, sweep 2D entities along a path, or loft between 2D entities to create solid objects. Slice and intersect solids, and edit edges, faces and bodies of 3D solids.
  • Customize workspaces & automate common tasks for greater efficiency: For every industry that relies on CAD tools, there’s a different workflow. To that end, CorelCAD is easily customizable to meet the needs of a variety of sectors and projects. Without any programming knowledge, you can fine-tune the user interface to your working needs. Custom workspace configurations can then be saved in user profiles and deployed throughout an organization to tailor the user interface to specific project needs and maximize productivity.
