Editing Text in Drawings

In-place Text Editing is one of the new features of ARES Commander 2015. With this new text editor, you can now edit texts like in a word processor.

1
00:00:08,840 –> 00:00:12,580
Create and edit text very easily in your drawings

2
00:00:12,580 –> 00:00:16,900
thanks to the tools offered by Ares Commander 2015.

3
00:00:16,900 –> 00:00:20,288
To edit a text, we can for example double-click

4
00:00:20,840 –> 00:00:22,420
and this editor opens.

5
00:00:22,680 –> 00:00:25,140
Its tools are similar to a word processor

6
00:00:25,620 –> 00:00:31,000
where we can select the text and convert it into uppercase or lowercase.

7
00:00:31,380 –> 00:00:36,100
We can even select several letters and convert to uppercase very easily.

8
00:00:39,000 –> 00:00:41,720
We can also select and change the color,

9
00:00:43,560 –> 00:00:47,320
convert to “Bold”, “Italic” or “Underlined”.

10
00:00:48,240 –> 00:00:51,40
We can also change the spacing between letters

11
00:00:51,220 –> 00:00:55,820
and even change the relation between width and height of each letter.

Copy and Pasting Text

12
00:00:58,970 –> 00:01:03,70
If we want to paste a text that we have created in another document,

13
00:01:03,400 –> 00:01:05,280
we can select & copy it.

14
00:01:05,640 –> 00:01:08,000
In this example from notepad.

15
00:01:09,100 –> 00:01:12,720
From the “Annotate” tab choose the command “NOTE”.

16
00:01:13,000 –> 00:01:16,640
We define the area where we will paste the text.

17
00:01:17,720 –> 00:01:22,480
Now we can use the key combination Control + V to paste.

18
00:01:23,360 –> 00:01:24,900
Or use this icon.

19
00:01:25,80 –> 00:01:27,760
If we now press the right button of the mouse,

20
00:01:28,60 –> 00:01:31,220
we can choose the “PASTE” command

21
00:01:31,229 –> 00:01:35,150
or the “PASTE SPECIAL” that allows us to use different filters.

22
00:01:35,780 –> 00:01:38,100
In this case we choose “PASTE”.

23
00:01:38,360 –> 00:01:41,140
Once the text is inserted, we can select

24
00:01:42,70 –> 00:01:43,889
and change the justification.

25
00:01:46,950 –> 00:01:49,590
And we can change the vertical space.

26
00:01:55,219 –> 00:02:00,759
Now we can position the cursor here and press Enter to create a new paragraph.

Separating Paragraphs

27
00:02:04,770 –> 00:02:08,289
We can further create a separation between paragraphs.

28
00:02:08,610 –> 00:02:11,630
If you like, you can stretch the text area

29
00:02:15,320 –> 00:02:18,150
and the text will be adjusted to the new size.

30
00:02:18,580 –> 00:02:22,200
We close with this button or by double clicking outside.

31
00:02:23,160 –> 00:02:25,740
The text will behave like a single entity.

32
00:02:26,100 –> 00:02:29,400
Let’s for example use the “MOVE” command,

33
00:02:33,480 –> 00:02:39,459
Ares Commander 2015 lets you add fractions and tolerances as part of the text.

34
00:02:39,880 –> 00:02:42,680
For this we use the command “NOTE”.

35
00:02:44,569 –> 00:02:48,409
We define the area where you place the text.

36
00:02:49,390 –> 00:02:54,809
To write the diameter symbol, we can combine the keys SHIFT

Adding Symbols

37
00:02:55,420 –> 00:02:59,179
and twice the % symbol, followed by the letter C.

38
00:02:59,460 –> 00:03:02,380
For the program we add the “PHI” symbol.

39
00:03:03,900 –> 00:03:06,500
Or we can use the drop-down menu

40
00:03:07,220 –> 00:03:14,960
where we have the options diameter, degree and even the +/- symbol,

41
00:03:15,960 –> 00:03:18,340
among other options.

42
00:03:21,740 –> 00:03:25,280
If we add a fraction, we can just write it this way.

43
00:03:29,680 –> 00:03:34,960
When we press the space key, the dialog box “AutoStack Defaults” opens.

44
00:03:36,560 –> 00:03:39,700
It allows us to define the look of this fraction.

45
00:03:39,940 –> 00:03:43,160
We can choose between horizontal or diagonal.

46
00:03:45,440 –> 00:03:48,400
If we want to change it, we can double click on the fraction

47
00:03:48,520 –> 00:03:53,820
and in the “STACK PROPERTIES” dialog we can change the values or the appearance of the fraction.

48
00:03:54,300 –> 00:03:59,20
We can, for example, choose the horizontal option, as we can see in the preview.

49
00:04:00,100 –> 00:04:02,859
We may change the scale of these numbers

50
00:04:06,540 –> 00:04:10,700
and even change the vertical position with respect to the text.

51
00:04:14,300 –> 00:04:16,360
If we want to add a tolerance

52
00:04:16,949 –> 00:04:19,879
we can select this fraction with double click.

53
00:04:20,480 –> 00:04:24,520
We select the type and then change the upper and lower values.

54
00:04:29,170 –> 00:04:35,910
If, at some point, we need to remove the “fractional” appearance or a tolerance we have in a text,

55
00:04:36,740 –> 00:04:38,60
we can select …

56
00:04:38,420 –> 00:04:40,500
… and then click this button.

57
00:04:42,540 –> 00:04:46,120
If we write two numbers separated by this symbol

58
00:04:46,800 –> 00:04:48,740
and press the space key,

59
00:04:49,580 –> 00:04:53,880
this dialog opens where you can define the appearance of tolerances.

60
00:04:57,940 –> 00:05:04,40
There are many options offered by ARES Commander 2015 to create and edit texts.

61
00:05:04,580 –> 00:05:09,000
To learn about them in depth we can use the “HELP” icon here.

62
00:05:10,520 –> 00:05:14,640
We will find step by step all the options offered by the software.
