New CorelCAD™ Delivers Precision and Power at an Affordable Price

Built for speed on Windows® and Mac OS®, CorelCAD Delivers Native DWG™ file format support, a full complement of 2D and 3D design tools, and broad compatibility with industry standard CAD tools and workflows

10. Mai 2011 – Ottawa, Canada – Corel® today announced the expansion of its award-winning graphics and technical illustration portfolio with the introduction of CorelCAD™, a powerful and affordable technical design solution that delivers native DWG support, with the industry standard CAD file format, and the ability to seamlessly navigate between 2D and 3D environments. Optimized for the Mac and Windows platforms, CorelCAD enables engineers, designers and architects to quickly and easily customize their work environments and work with even greater speed and efficiency.

Competitively priced, CorelCAD offers small-to-medium-sized businesses and larger enterprises an affordable option for site-wide deployments, making it an ideal solution for day-to-day design projects that require a high level of precision and detail.

Improved Workflow and Compatibility Built on Leading CAD Technology

Corel has partnered with Graebert GmbH, a leading CAD developer with over 25 years of industry experience, to develop and market CorelCAD to a wide audience of users. As a result, existing CAD users will enjoy an intuitive environment with familiar command bars, aliases, menus and toolbars. In addition, CorelCAD provides excellent compatibility, working natively with the AutoCAD® DWG™ file format and eliminating the need for an import / export process to read and write files in the industry standard format.

“The high cost of many CAD solutions makes it a prohibitive expense for small-to-medium-sized businesses. CorelCAD represents a great alternative, particularly for technical designers seeking power and precision at an affordable price,” said Klaus Vossen, Product Manager for Technical Graphics at Corel. “We’re confident that CorelCAD’s combination of price and performance will provide a compelling alternative to architects, engineers, construction firms and any enterprise seeking precision tools for 2D and 3D design.”

Powerful Feature Set Delivers New Levels of Productivity

Focused on helping users to be as productive as possible, CorelCAD emphasizes file format support, customization and ease of integration into existing design workflows. Key capabilities include the ability to:

  • Open & save DWG files natively: CorelCAD™ uses DWG™ as its native file format and offers DXF™ and DWF support up to AutoCAD® 2010 file format versions (used by AutoCAD® 2010-AutoCAD® 2012). Open, work with and save files in DWG format for worry-free collaboration with colleagues, suppliers and partners. Plus, save drawings back to R12 DWG or DXF format, and recover DWG and DXF files in all format versions.

  • Design in 2D & 3D: Along with a comprehensive set of 2D drawing features, CorelCAD includes a set of 3D solid modeling tools. Add 3D solid primitives to your design and use Boolean operations to unite, intersect and subtract bodies. Extrude or revolve 2D entities, sweep 2D entities along a path, or loft between 2D entities to create solid objects. Slice and intersect solids, and edit edges, faces and bodies of 3D solids.

  • Customize workspaces & automate common tasks for greater efficiency: For every industry that relies on CAD tools, there’s a different workflow. To that end, CorelCAD is easily customizable to meet the needs of a variety of sectors and projects. Without any programming knowledge, you can fine-tune the user interface to your working needs. Custom workspace configurations can then be saved in user profiles and deployed throughout an organization to tailor the user interface to specific project needs and maximize productivity.

Press Release, November 30 2011

Graebert Announces Next Generation of SiteMaster for Computer Aided Surveying and Building Information Modeling

New Standard for Building Surveys, Completely Rewritten to Use ARES Core Engine for 2D/3D Performance and AutoCAD Compatibility; Combines Mobile Deployment, 3D Building Measurement and Object Modeling into a Single Solution

November, 30 2010 – Berlin – Graebert™ GmbH, the developer of the acclaimed ARES™ CAD cross-platform solution and the co-developer of DraftSight™, the 2D Dassault Systemes SolidWorks™ software, today announced a major upgrade of SiteMaster™, the company’s site surveying and measurement package.

This completely re-written version of SiteMaster offers state-of-the-art CAD and modeling technology such as automated wall cleanup, parametric objects and smart dimensioning for positioning and replicating complex architectural features. SiteMaster allows customers to use laser distance meters and a portable PC (notebooks, or tablets using Microsoft® Windows Version 7®) to quickly create both 2D plans and 3D models.

Using SiteMaster, a single person can handle the entire survey process, even of very large buildings, structures, and construction sites. SiteMaster technology allows for easy CAD drawing creation in the field, reducing back-office rework of surveys to a minimum while also maximizing productivity and results.

Based on ARES Commander Edition, the new CAD engine from Graebert introduced in 2010, SiteMaster Version 6 also allows CAD drawings to be directly produced and output in the industry standard DWG format. Through the ARES core engine, SiteMaster Version 6 sets a new standard for mobile surveying speed and accuracy.

Previous SiteMaster versions introduced over the last two decades pioneered the concept of mobile, in-the-field CAD creation for the survey and measurement user. Version 6 adds the new ability to create 3D models with complete graphical and non-graphical information.

The building models created by SiteMaster Version 6 are fully compatible with the objects in use by other programs in this market, such as the Autodesk® Architectural Desktop (ADT), Revit™ and Tekla™. The 3D object models generated by SiteMaster 6 are also compatible with Industry Foundation Classes (IFC). IFC compatibility allows surveys to be seamlessly integrated into large architectural projects, facilities management, job-site surveys and energy assessment environments.

Millions of square meters have been surveyed with Graebert SiteMaster software, including Deutsche Telekom®, Germany (13,778 rooms with more than one million square meters in 15 weeks), McDonald's® in Great Britain (300 Restaurants in two months) as well as 70 Public Sector buildings in Great Britain (140,000 square meters in three weeks).

Graebert also offers an Energy Efficiency module for its 3D surveying software. It not only lets the user collect the relevant data (such as construction and building services) when surveying buildings, but also creates the abstract 3D zone model of uniformly conditioned building areas, which are used to calculate building ratings and generate Energy Performance Certificates.

SiteMaster 6 is currently in Beta testing and is expected to be generally available at the beginning of 2011 – the company is actively seeking Beta testers for the product. An application built upon SiteMaster Version 6 for the United Kingdom is also ready to test. Current clients, along with interested surveyors, architects and facility managers may easily participate in a three-month validation of the new software. Please contact sitemaster@graebert.com to apply for this program.

“For the last 20 years, SiteMaster has been a gold standard for computer aided surveying and has been instrumental in measuring sites worldwide by some of the largest surveying firms,” said Wilfried Graebert, founder and CEO of Graebert GmbH. “The inclusion of our ARES 2D/3D CAD engine into the latest version of SiteMaster brings new functionality, speed and workflow capabilities to an already exceptional product.”

Both ARES and ARES Commander Edition for Microsoft Windows are available immediately as trial downloads from www.graebert.com - the Mac and Linux versions are currently part of a closed Beta process (request an invite at www.graebert.com) and are expected to ship in the 2nd quarter of 2010.
